" TOKYO - Five Japanese TV manufacturers will form a working group to
hammer out technical specifications by October for digital TVs with
Internet access.
Hitachi Ltd., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., Sharp Corp., Sony
Corp. and Toshiba Corp. are leading the effort to define the connection
between digital TV's and the Internet. They will launch the working group
on April 14 to prepare a common platform for digital TV sets net access.
Though Internet TVs have failed in the past, the five companies said they
intend to position the digital TV set as a home information center.

Matsushtia and Sony agreed last December to collaborate in developing an
enhanced version of Linux for digital consumer electronics products. The
two companies will develop a consumer electronics version of Linux to
provide functions and performance required for digital products. The
resulting source code will be made available through the General Public
License procedure. "

" As a result of the joint effort, the working group is expected to
adopt Linux as the operating system for its TV-Internet connection
specification. "

Use it for whatever you want....bootable business card? Internet enabled
TV? etc.etc.etc.
