Hi Troy!
THC> convention. I searched from 30-999 MHz in the middle of downtown. I
THC> never got farther than 4 or 5 MHz from the last frequency I found
THC> before I bumped into the next, and sometimes would find several hits
THC> one search step after another.
THC> I came away from that city with two conclusions:
THC> 1) It's a miracle that people can talk by radio down there at all.
Isn't that the truth! I have an IC-W2A Ham HT, and when you get down in a
certain area of Dallas.....look out! You will hear anything and everything,
and all right on top of one another! Never tried any of the scanners in that
area, but I am sure it's the same. Around here with the country being so
flat, it's easy to pick up things, although tall buildings do hamper some
reception.
THC> 2) There are too many security "experts" in the field who think that
THC> cellular phones are completely private. Of this group, those that
THC> even know about scanners think that all scanners which could possibly
THC> pick up cellular are illegal, confiscated, destroyed, etc.
THC> I'd like to try out the 2004/5/6 series, but just can't find them
THC> local for a decent price. The 2035 seems to be built along the same
THC> lines, and apparently most of the modifications for the ealier
THC> scanners can be performed on the 2035 as well. Have you tried the
THC> 2042? As I understand it, it's a 2035 with improved firmware.
The 2004/5/6, while I can't vouch personally for the "5", are excellent
scanners.
I've never regreted purchasing any of them, and also the 2035. Haven't tried
the 2042, yet! There's quite a family story about my scanner addiction.
When I purchased my first programmable RS scanner, the 2001, (16 channel)
I promised my husband I wouldn't want another scanner as long as I lived!
Now many years later, after the 2002/4/6/35, do you think he believes me? I
saw the specs for the 2042, and it does have a few new tricks that would be
nice to have on a scanner. Since I have a birthday coming up, maybe, just
maybe? I have a feeling whatever the gift, it's already been bought. Al seems
to be putting in alot of overtime lately.
Bobbie
