In essence, this hate-fest against Lawrence Summers has arisen because many
women expect to be promoted in their jobs simply because they are women
rather than because they merit any promotion. They expect to be given the
same positions as men without having to do the same amount of work or
reaching the same levels.

They expect the higher jobs to be handed to them on a plate.

Further, given that women have been extremely successful in gaining
promotions without merit over the past few decades, it follows that many
women (if not most of them) who currently occupy high positions are not
deserving of them.

stereotypes of women here. Hopkins was evidently working a cause she's made
a career of flogging: The same Professor Hopkins led faculty uprisings at
MIT and nine other universities in 1991 alleging sexual discrimination in
hiring and promotion. The issue became a cause celebre for women's groups.
