Hmmm, considerations:

IBM and HP are tight with Red Hat, and IBM also supports SuSE.

Debian has a slow update cycle -- good, bad, or neutral?

Debian is also very Euro, independent, and idealogical.

Mandrake is (was?) Red Hat based, but is more innovative.

Mandrake needs more capital to get on solid ground.

Decisions, decisions...

Sun could do worse than invest in Mandrake (and Opterons can hammer HP).

Hmmm...
