We have been following the Olympics, along with most of the rest of the
world. I've surreptitiously stuck in some geography and map-reading
skills in the middle of summer.
We have a large laminated world map and a small laminated US map. I
mounted them on the living room wall. When we watch a medal
competition, the winning countries (or states) are identified on our
maps with small gold, silver, red and or green stars. (Since we had 4
colors of stars, my daughter insisted on using them all. WHY NOT?)
Our map doesn't reflect the accurate medal totals, but who cares? We
can much more easily find Hungary or Korea or Netherlands on a world
map.
This has been a high interest, low stress approach to geography.
Happy summer!
