I was in the service and used the R-390s. They were a great receiver. Even
though they were an AM receiver, if you turned the BFO on and then set the
offset + or - about 1 KC you could listen to SSB with them. I spent many
Late Watches just DXing the bands with the big receiving antennas in Puerto
Rico on a spare receiver while waiting for traffic to come in.
