However, some parents cannot or will not pay for their kids to go to
school.

Some real solutions include:

1. Firing worthless teachers.

2. Eliminating the tenure system.

3. More male teachers at the primary level.

4. Segregating girls at boys at the elementary level, so each can be
taught in the way that they learn best.

5. Segregating classes based on performance. I cannot begin to tell you
how frustrating it is that while the teacher tried to teach the local
retard long division in eight grade, high performers are learning
nothing at all.

6. Government sponsered school for gifted children. Gifted children are
sometime a curse when put in a class with kids at 1/2 their
comprehension level. A 3rd grader reading on the 12th grade level
should not be put in a class with a normal 3rd grader, much less a
below average one.

7. More use of the Socratic method for gifted students.

8. More hands on learning in science.

9. Teaching actual courses in history and arts instead of "social
studies."

10. Pay the teachers more, but make them earn it. 30,000 a year will
not attract intelligent people, unless they just have a huge passion
for teaching. I would love to be a teacher of science, drama,
literature, or art, but as a man in the 97 percentile in intelligence,
I cannot justify the lack of compensation I will receive. I can start
at 40,000 a year and maybe make over 100,000 one day, or I can start at
27,000 and maybe make 35,000 on day.

11. Actually discipline kids in school. Most children run amok and
mommy and daddy get mad if they are called down publicly or miss
recess.

12. Fire worthless administrators.

13. Eliminate social status symbols in schools, for example, kids do
not need cell phones at recess, expensive jewerly on, or $200
basketball shoes. Uniforms are not necessary, but when on the sports
team you have to wear these $30 Chuck Taylors or whatever. No little
girls with diamond rings on, no jewerly at all except for one approved,
cheap watch.

14. Treat children like adults, if they act like it. Do not patronize,
call them by their last names. You would be suprised how much this will
make a child act more adult.

15. More interesting classes. Maybe even electives instead of
"social studies," have American History, British Literature, or Ancient
Civilizations. Of course, there would be some requirements, just like
college.

16. Block scheduling starting at 6th grade. The kids get an extra class
and learn to manage their time.

17. Take TV's out of classrooms altogether. If the teacher cannot teach
without videos, they should not teach.

18. Civil engagement projects at the grade school level.

19. Awards given based on what was obtained instead of "class rank" or
"all A's." A child may be horrible at math and great at everything
else. A C in math and A's in 6 other classes gives 3.71 GPA. That will
make the deans honor roll in college, but the current system focuses on
the C.

20. Teach drama, music, debate, the arts. There are only really three
things one needs to excel at to excell in school. Logic, memory, and
reading comprehension. Music is very logical, so is debate. Drama
teaches memory like nothing else does. Debate also inforces reading
comprehension as does drama, etc.
