I'm just now teaching my kids the musicals that I grew up with - and some of
the newer ones that just came out. In the house I grew up in (and it's
getting to be a new habit here) is "Every line's a song". For instance,
someone will comment on a cloudy day, "gee, where's the sun?" and someone
would break out in, "The sun'll come out tomorrow, bet yer bottom dollar that
tomorrow, there'll be sun...." ("Annie").
My husband is and will always be a musician (Drummer and singer), but he
wasn't as attuned to the musicals until he married a Brassea either. Now he
actually has to *attend* them on occasion! (My brother and his wife are
currently in the Broadway touring company of "Damn Yankees", starring Jerry
Lewis. We went over to Phoenix to see the show when it was there last
November, and we'll probably go into downtown San Diego when they are here
this fall.)
