subject: Re: Women`s contribution to the medical crisis in Canada

True to form, you are oblivious to the cost and the damage inflicted by
some womens choices. Taking up a rare, expensive slot in medical
training and then deciding to sit out the game is a big deal and has
bad consequences when done on this scale. One result is that there are
simply less medical services available. There is not "more room" for
anyone or "better service". There is a shortage of MDs and the
disppearance of each one puts extra stress on the others and longer
waits for patients.
This situation is a severe challenge to the notion that women have
actually been held back from doing the things they have really wanted
to do. It looks like a good example (proof, actually) that few women
want to practice medicine - that despite the training and the
opportunity and the income, in huge numbers they are demonstrating that
they would rather do something else. And obviously always felt this way
about it.
Women Docs can hire all the domestic help/ house-husbands they need
to maintain their careers full bore. It is hard to see a reason for
what is happening except they simply do not much desire to practice
medicine.
The numbers are at least as bad in the other numerous places that
have recently feminized their medical corps.
