rc> C'mon Paul, think about it. The ?'s replace a single character. How can
rc> a spec of "MSQ3??.*" (base filename of 6 characters) possibly match
rc> "MSQ304D.ZIP" (base filename of 7 characters).

I know that, and trust patmat() [designed to my exact specs] especially
to produce the right results, and I am pretty trusting of DOS to
produce the right results, but have never experimented with whatever
algorithm Binkley uses, so I don't do things like that (yet). Did
you know that the DOS "DIR" command will match TEMP.TXT if you go
TEMP*, but if you go "DEL TEMP*" the file won't get matched? Did you
know that at some time OS/2? or some version of DOS matched "." and
".." if you went "EXISTS *.*"? There's too many things
I don't know,
and I'm not about to experiment on a file that's had an enormous
number of FREQs done on it already.

rc> You could always do the obvious thing, and change the magicname spec to
rc> the actual filename.

That would require me to administer my OKFILE1.TXT. I don't do
administration thankyou. I usually don't do docs either. I'm
happy to hack docs a bit, but that's about the extent of it. I
think my skills are more profitably (profit the PD that is) spent
developing code rather than writing documentation, doing
administration (even more than debating whether all communists should
be summarily executed or not). Or wasting time looking up the docs
for Binkley (or trying it out), especially when the alternative I
am hoping for is to enhance Devil Dialer C to the point where it is
a front-end mailer as well.

Actually, my initial aim on that score is to get rid of Maximus,
and have my own BBS that has the following great features:

1. prints a message on your screen telling you that it would be
a good idea to download Devil Dialer C and FREQ "FILES" from
3:711/934 and then FREQ all the files in File Area 1.

2. Starts a Zmodem send of Devil Dialer C.

If that isn't a subtle hint to become a point instead of wanking
around on the BBS trying to remember what your name is, I don't
know what is!!!

BTW, here's a hint for anyone who uploads files to my BBS. Now
would be a good time to stop logging on the to BBS to upload a
file, and get the TIC mechanism working properly instead!!!

BFN. Paul.
