The beauty of marking the ones I want Unread is that for me (the way I
have things set up) that means that when I open that area again, it
jumps immediately to the first of them.  We all develop our own favorite
routines for doing things...  :)

What was in question primarily though was why he was losing his marks
when he closed up the packet.

Also in 2.20, which I'm using.  Jean's using 2.30 like you.

But I don't bother with deleting messages very often...  I'm more likely
to save messages into other files and then delete whole packets (if at
all).  Again, we all have our favorite routines for using BW.... :)
