Jane Segal On (29 Jun 96) was overheard to say to Lisa Gano
JS> LG>-> BZZZZZZT! Wrong. Ritalin is not a form of speed. Ask your
JS> LG>-> doctor or the pharmacist who fills the prescription or go to the
JS> LG>-> library and look it up for yourself.
JS> LG>I believe Ritalin is a form of speed, or at least it works that way
JS> LG>on people who do not have ADHD. That's why so many kids are into
JS> LG>taking it these days--kids without ADHD, I mean. They get a high
JS> LG>like Cal described, and for someone who wants to be hyper and does
JS> LG>not have ADHD, it does the trick!
JS> I do believe that Lisa is correct on this one. As I think back to
JS> when this first surfaced, they discovered that giving a hyper active
JS> child
JS> speed would create the opposite reation in a child than it does in an
JS> adult. Ritalin was, I believe as one of the first drugs for kids with
JS> "hyper activity." This was before the terms ADD/ADHD were used.
I can't emphasize strongly enough that your BELIEFS bear little
resemblance to the facts. Until you have researched it for yourself,
and I mean R E S E A R C H E D as in reading medical journal
articles, case studies and talked to a reputable physician - as in
one who knows lots about ADD/ADHD - then you are merely gossiping
about what you have heard someone else say.
... One's certainty varies inversely with one's knowledge.
