Not any longer. If you play ball, you have the hazard of knee, elbow or 
shoulder 
injuries and your health insurance might not cover it. Fishing? Nah, too many 
chemicals been dumped into the streams and lakes and all the fish MIGHT be  
contaminated with something, plus the hazards of the shrp hooks and standing 
knee deep in a cold stream, well........As for whittling? No way! Too many  
government mandated safety warnings on a knife to be able to even open one 
without spending your entire day just reading what boils down to "caution,  
this thing might be sharp and could cut you".  
The great American sport now is litigation.
