caller id can exist niow for cell tel in canada.
bell cellular runs dms 100 switches from nortel and has ss7
trunks but the switches have beeen told for the most part to
block display of the calling number.
However when i call Montreal customer service, they have my full
customer record on their screen as soon as they answer.
Well I never keyed it in the switch gave them my number.
To tell just where you are, the cell tel would need to give the
boundaries of the cell you are in now and any adjacent cells that
picked you up recently.
This info is available from the network screen but only network
analysts and techs know how to interpret it and are not in a rush
to give it out to anyone .
i had a real flakey problem one day and asked tech if she could
tell which switch i was on and she said well sortof and said I
was on Toronto East switch and gave a tower but said she wasn't
supposed to tell me this info like where tower is.
They don't want crazies sabotaging towers etc.
