Thanks for your answer on my question about the verify=on
If I understand you well,  your looking for the switch -wC:\
what givs a working space on your C drive.
I'm using the following command line for backup to A:
ARJ A -R -V1440 -Y -JT -I2 -WC:\  A:archive
Hope this is what your looking for.
