subject: newsgroups vs. echoes

-> How do Internet newsgroups compare with FidoNet echoes? In an echo,
-> every bbs that carries it gets the same number of messages. Do
-> newsgroups work the same way, or does it depend on the news server
-> you access?
Access to newsgroups is very much dependant on the server you're getting
them from. There are well over 40,000 newsgroups available, few ISPs
have more than 25-30,000 available (my ISP claims 39,000+, but many have
incomplete posts, or nothing in them). There are 'news only'
subscription services that have better access than most ISPs, and cost
about $10 a month.
