BW> I'll be honest, when "Heir to the Empire" was first released, I bought
BW> it that day and loved it. However, as time went on, and everything else
BW> was released, even that book became "bad," so to speak.
MS> I hated the finale of The Last Command (I think that was the
MS> book). "Hey, let's use the dark side of the force to throw GRAVEL in
MS> the heros' EYES!!!" I'm sorry, but that's just plain boring and
MS> stupid, and ruined what was probably one of the best SW trilogies of
 MS> novels.
Tell me about it! The entire issue of the Force is to be honest, just plain
stupid in the novels. And on a far more horribile level, the comics. I
mean, when Vader said, "The power to destory a planet is insignificant next
to the powers of the Force," I think it was extremely obvious he was being
metaphorical... however, then we have the comics, where, of course, it is
very simple to not just destroy a planet, but an entire solar system with
the Force. After reading the comics and books, new "ideas" come to mind
bout
the films. I mean, if the Force can do all this, it should have been simple
for the Emperor to sit on his throne and just Will that all the rebels die.
Everything after the films has made the Force laughable. Vader, in Star
Wars, could not even get a simple location out of Leia, and he had the help
of an interrigation droid AND the Force! Oh, and Vader just watched the
Falcon fly away from his grasp more than once in Empire, yet Luke can, very
easily, collapse an Imperial walker with a thought and a gesture.
On top of that, there is the fact that Ben and Yoda were mistaken; Yoda did
say, "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be." Hmmm... well, in
the novels there are countless Jedi popping up all over; that does not
include the comics and video and computer games (which some people out there
prefer to think of as a true part of the Star Wars mythos (thankfully those
numbers are greatly lowering)). I mean, if we were to get into the games, we
have Kyle Katarn running around a Super Star Destroyer with DARTH VADER
onboard, yet he manages to get by all of the forces and Vader does nothing
but look out the window at the end and say something stupid like, "Woah,
he is strong with the Force!" Well, Vader, go get him! I'm also sure Yoda
would have wanted to know about his existence, but then, Yoda was getting
old.
Oh, onboard Vader's ship again, in Rebel Assault II, this time his ship is
destroyed, and he must, again like the Death Star, flee the scene. Poor
Vader, he just gets beat up a lot.
All this just makes me think back to the good 'ol days where a simple gesture
of the hand could either strangle someone to death or at least scare them
enough for them not to make a mistake again. The novels and comics have
forgotton that.
Star Wars should be called Star Bored.
