I suggest installing Multimail for whatever OS you're running on your local
machine. Configure it so that the upload and wnload directories correspond to
where your terminal program downloads to and uploads from.

Once Multimail is setup, log into the BBS, go to the offline mail section
(exact means is BBS dependent). Most BBSs only offer QWK, which does work
well. I prefer Bluewave where available, but modern QWK implementations have a
similar feature set.

You will need to select the message areas to download (i.e. the ones you want
to read), and there's options to configure the mail packet. If QWKE is
offered, enable it. That enables long subject lines and other useful
enhancements to QWK. Multimail can handle QWKE.

Anyway, because there's a lot of BBS specific stuff here, it's best to deal
with issues as they crop up.
