Re: SEEN-BY stripping By: mark lewis to Nicholas Boel on Wed Aug 07 2013 11:00 pm ML> yeah, i didn't think that frank did that... there are others, though, who ML> do... some are even "well known"... Agreed. I was just pointing out that he doesn't do that, as a "somewhat" verified source, since I've been friends with him and we've worked together on stuff for years. In that case, I'll just assume that HPT is better. :) If FMail is from the 80s, and someone recently posted their update wasn't much added functionality.. But hey, if you know how to use it, and it works well for what you're using it with, I have no complaints whatsoever. I've used FE before. But now that I don't run *any* servers on any kind of Windows operating systems.. I will never be able to use it again, unless I want to downgrade my linux kernel to 2.4 for it to work properly, which is completely intolerable. :) HPT is still updated and maintained, and that's what I like about it. Kinda like why I still hang with the Synchronet and Mystic crowds.. Love the participation and friendship that's aquired while working together to make something happen. ML> i don't understand "cover all the aspects of FTN"... it is not an ML> all-in-one package like DB and a few other products, no... i much prefer ML> to NOT use all-in-one stuff because if there's a problem with one part, ML> well... kinda like those all-in-one printer/fax/scanner machines... i'd ML> rather have each separate so that just that one can be replaced or ML> repaired while the others remain in place and operational ;) I guess I see your point there. But in this case I don't see that happening. Good programs log everything, and logs tell the tale. Usually, with something like HPT (if it in fact is considered an all-in-one package.. I don't consider it that), if something goes wrong, the logs direct you to where the problem occured. Most of the time, it's user error, unless a bug is found, of course. I don't run .MSG on my system, except for netmail. I can't use DB until JAM is incorporated. Then I will definitely give it a run for it's worth. I've heard great things, and love to participate in the echo (until the iron fist moderator put me on read-only because I joked around with the developer, who is a part of my network and a good friend of mine). But anyways.. What works for you is what works for you. I don't hold any disrespect for anyone that uses software different from mine, as long as we're meeting at the same goal. If I want more out of my software, I will look for it. If I can't find it, I will modify what I have to do what I want it to do. I'm pretty happy with what I have now, so I'm going to start a new project here soon. Hopefully it goes as well as I plan it to. :) Regards, Nick --- SBBSecho 2.20-Linux* Origin: thePharcyde_ telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org (Wisconsin) (1:154/10) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 550 848 @PATH: 154/10 123/500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
