I feel like I've just survived my own personal Eugenics Wars...

After spending over 40 hours over the past three weeks with Dell and HP
tech support, we figured out that in order for my new scanner to work I had
to do a full format and reinstall. HP's new software is touchy with
modifications made to XP and any previous scanner on the system would mess
things up royally. Even cleaning the registry doesn't do anything
meaninful. So, I spent the past three days backing up files, and did the
FFR.

Said procedure has been completed, and thankfully, the bloody scanner works.

I now have about 10 gigs worth of software to reinstall.

I bloody hate computers.

I like what they can *do* when they work, though...
