News:
STAR WARS EPISODE I
- In case you missed it, Fox has signed to be the official distributor
(kudos to Prequel Watch at JediNet for breaking the scoop before it
happened). What does this mean to you? The opening Fox fanfare from ANH,
ESB, and ROJ will probably still be there, the home releases will come from
FOX, and odds are more than likely that the first trailer will be shown with
a FOX film. My guess is a whole lotta people will be going to see X-Files
just to see if that happens... See the whole shabang at:
www.jedinet.com/prequels.
- Buzz has it (courtesy of theforce.net) that LFL is asking its licensees to
release most non-Episode I product before September of 1998... at least for
Applause!. They also report that other companies might have to do the
same - including you-know-who. Here's hoping that's not going to happen - I
mean, I really doubt Kenner will release all of its classic product before
September of this year, but it could happen. I mean, other than the Expanded
Universe stuff, I bet everything could be out before then... who knows?
(BTW, check out the custom prequel figures if you visit theforce.net... it
be neat stuff.)

MORE KENNER SHIPMENTS TO RETAILLERS
- Over the weekend a few local Toys "R" Us stores were packed with
Millennium Minted Coin figures (best images of these:
www.wiseacres.com/kenner.htm) and new Freeze Frame figures. Ewoks, Luke
Bespin, Slave Leia, Vader w/removable helmet, and so forth. So keep an eye
open, there be new figures in them thar pegs!
- TARGET stores have their Star Wars toys on sale. Figures are $4.44;
Beasts, the EU Cloud Car, and EU Airspeeder are about twelve bucks. If
you've been waiting for a sale to get some EU vehicles, now's a good time -
these are neat (and dare I say FUN) vehicles despite their lack of
appearance in any movie.
- Epic Force C-3PO has arrived at stores. The assortment is (thanks to Wayne
Hartley for the info) 2 C-3POs, 2 Vaders, 1 Luke, 1 Boba Fett. Odd,
considering Fett is easily the best of the lot...

MISC SW TIDBITS
- Star Wars: The Manga is coming in July from Dark Horse Comics. Japanese
style Star Wars Comic books... proof positive that someone up there is
listening to me. :)
- Again, a follow-up N64 Star Wars title is expected at E3 in May, as is
another PlayStation SW title. No news has been released as far as I can
tell.
- Yoda Stories is still scheduled for a future GameBoy release according to
www.nintendo.com. No further info was available there or at www.thq.com.
- FAO Schwarz is taking pre-orders on its new 12" Star Wars exclusive sets.
Info AND images at www.fao.com.
- FAO also has images of the new ROJ 12" Assortment - Barquin D'an, Chewie
as Boushh's Captive, Jedi Luke, and Emperor Palpatine are shown and it looks
like pre-orders are being taken. 4" scale Bantha and Rancor toys are shown
as well.
- Regarldess of what you may have heard, the last time I asked Kenner there
were NO PLANS for a Tatooine Skiff, Imperial Shuttle, or Power FX Millennium
Falcon for the future. While this may change, it'd be worth your while
ignoring the rumors until something solid comes up.
- It's not a rumor: Kenner will be offering an Episode One figure by mail
some time around the fourth quarter of 1998. As to who it is, well, we don't
have anything solid. It'll cost about $3.50 + 6 UPC symbols. And it better
not require receipts... (I really hate when it does, then I have to dig
through shoeboxes and yadda yadda yadda....)
