So I've always heard, but this was a new low.  On the other hand this was a 
transit base used by all for flights in and out of Japan.   In fact the 
plane we used was a Navy plane, not a AF one, but flew from the AF field? 
(Hanidea or some such name, but this was back in 1952.)

The concept of a paid mess is kinda beyond me?  Was this true back in my 
days as well?  (51-54.)  I know the CPO had their own mess, but did they 
pay for it or was it in a general budget?
