hehe :)

you hate users playing around with settings on the cybercafe ? :)

lets hope its your own cafe :)

DG>>> It extends for 69 more pages. what exacly should i look for?

yes

DG> Thanks a lot it's really usefull stuff to look at.

if you browse your own site you will see what hostnames apache is serving :)

let the kids play :)

BP>>>> maybe just your dns missing a cname ?
 BP>>>> *.skynetbbs.org cname skynetbbs.org
BP>>>> if you are unsure try
 BP>>>> dig www.skynetbbs.org
 BP>>>> is there a cname ?
 DG> yep www.skynetbbs.org CNAME xaero.skynetbbs.org
BP>> how do you want apache to serve them ?
 DG> I don't get this :?

if all the names should show the same page since thay are on the same ip,
you have to declare them as serveralias in apache conf, doit :)

DG>>> I know what the problem is bbs.rafastd.is still doing some weird
DG>>> stuff and for some reason hasn't updated it's slave zone from
DG>>> zoneedit which are my Dynamic DNS providers for skynetbbs.org

if your own serial on the soa record is lower then the soa on the slave
then it wont update :)

DG>>> and his DNS points to 212.69.112.164 which was my IP weeks ago. i'll
DG>>> take him out of my MS list though so you won't have and me
neither have
 DG>>> that problem again.

ms, you mean ns list :)

BP>> goody, if you want some of us to connect to your mbse we need a

DG> Well in fact you have like lazy eyes huh have you ever checked the
DG> nodelist or at least my *Origin line? ;-)

yes, but i did not know your bbs do use that hostname before now :)

DG> . mean i have two hostnames for that matter bbs.skynetbbs.org (primary)
DG> and fidocol-.dyndns.org (backup). They're automatically updated each time
DG> my IP changes with ddclient. so i always have a reliable connection to

if you want uptime, get static ip :)

BP>> if this was not your plan you can run as client as you do now :)
DG> Sorry?, i've always been serving since i first created the BBS i've
DG> always done Telnet serving and BinkP always with dinamic IP but static
 DG> hostnames

okay if it works, but i don't trust it :)

BP>> do you make dns settings your self ?
DG> Yep, have done it for some months i just wanned to have my own DNS for
DG> my network and leaning purposes too and i run my own BIND as secundary
DG> DNS of my onw skynetbbs.org domain which is handled also by me at zonedit.

so you have your own bind as slave for your domain, its very simple then to
make php / mysql setup to create the zone file and then reload the named
and let the master server follow :)

DG> i like to complicate my life many would say.

belive me, most dns people don't know how easy it is to maintain there own domain :)

DG> I've also set up a DHCP server

did it fail ?

DG> and tried a LDAP server but never could so just forgot about it.

LDAP is evil :)

DG> I've also messed around with LTSP, NFS, Samba and some other stuff
DG> which i've learned a lot from and that way i've made some bucks out of
 DG> it. -:)

cool

BP >>>> is www.skynetbbs.org setup in your apache to point to the same
BP >>>> dir as skynetbbs.org ? in apache this is done with serveralias
 BP >>>> token :)
BP >> you have found it ?
DG> Yes i checked out the settings

so you have it working now ?, what do /server-info tell you ? :)

DG>>> into the web page, pretty dorky huh?.
 BP>> yep :)
DG> Well and i think you didn't get much of it being in soanish, but you
 DG> can translate it on-line.

yes yes

DG>>> PS: Delted bbs.rafastd.org from my DNS so now it's all ready
 DG>>> ready already :)
 BP>> okay dokey :)
DG> So now you can hit both www. and skynet.... and get to the same
 DG> location?.

still have to test this from here

DG> Cool, What has been your experience with Linux?.

here it runs everything i need, but my family members only knows gimp :)

its pretty cool to have all in text mode, no silly graphics in mails, just
the plain mail :)

DG> though i don't ask that cos many times my knowledge is so insignifficant
DG> to all of those linux geeks that know it all and i see i'm just a litle
DG> sand grane on a big beach and that i don't know anything.

remember that geeks are just old people that have worked long to know what
a geek is :)

 Regards Benny

... and it works :)
