subject: BW Shortcut in Vista

Tika, top of the morning to you !

TC> AHA! You just told me something that gives me the key to it all! :)
TC> Though I can't resolve the problem, I *can* tell you *why* it's doing
 TC> this!

I am not in a position to know why it does this, Tika, but I
can tell that I will have to live with this. The icon was readily
made in any other OS but Vista, maybe there is really no DOS at all
   in Vista.

TC> See, Blue Wave (the .exe) is a DOS program, made for MS-DOS which does
TC> not use icons. Windows also uses .exe but those .exe programs
TC> *include* an icon *inside* the .exe. DOS .exe programs do not. You
TC> can't tell the difference by the filename. The only way you'd know is
TC> if you already know it's a DOS program and/or if it shows up in Windows
TC> Explorer with a default icon by the filename (if you are viewing in
TC> icon, thumbnail or tile mode). So the reason it shows a ? in the Office
TC> toolbar is because the .exe was made for DOS and thus does not include
 TC> an icon in it.

Looking at the folder for BW, I see the bwave.exe and just
below it, an icon for the blue wave, called bwave.icon. What
troubles me ( not much ) is that after I move it to the desktop, it
retains the icon, it is only after I move it to the Office shortcut
bar that it mutes to this "?".

TC> I think you might be right that if you can not make a shortcut in the
TC> Office toolbar then it's not possible to get the BW icon to show up.

I can place the "?" onto the shortcut bar and it does lead to
   the .exe and runs BW.

TC> Try *right Clicking* on the Office toolbar though and look for
TC> something called "Customize" or "Properties" or
"Settings", maybe
TC> "Configuration"? Click on that if one of them is present
and see if you
TC> can add a shortcut to the toolbar that way. Might be worth it to
TC> explore those options and look around.

I have done this routine many times and it still will not keep
the bwave icon as in the folder. Just moving it up to the bar,
changes the icon. Strange when Win98SE,Me and XP allowed this.

... After TI, I am giving Ubuntu a hard time.
... Or is it U'U giving me a hard time ???
