I agree with you 100%. I stopped reading the novels awhile ago, too. I have
never felt that any of them are "true" Star Wars; they just don't feel right.
At least at first, however, they were worth reading and enjoyable. Now there
is like a new trilogy every week, and it is so old. I honestly could care
less WHAT Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, the droids, and anyone else is up to. I
would LOVE it if an author wanted to write one and got permission to actually
kill a main character off. Could you imagine a novel, even a "cheap" one,
where Lando or Wedge dies? Not a Star Trek death, but a real death where
they do not appear in any of the books? A lot of people would hate that,
but at least it would be SOMETHING new. We, the readers, have had none of
that. The books have destroyed any meaning the Star Wars Trilogy had, and
have rendered the end of Return of the Jedi moot and pointless. I'll be
honest, when "Heir to the Empire" was first released, I bought it that day
and loved it. However, as time went on, and everything else was released,
even that book became "bad," so to speak. I never thought it captured the
spirit of Star Wars (like so many others seem to think it did), but it was
interesting. I'm tired of reading, "And then Luke reached down into the
deepest place of his soul and used every ounce of Force Power he had left. He
had never been through anything like this before, from the Death Star, to
facing Vader and the Emperor, to the Wampa, to Waru, and any other thing he
has faced up until this point. This was his true test." Not exactly that,
but you get the idea.
I love how, for a Jedi Master, Luke always seems to be pushed around. In
Dark Saber he nearly gets killed by some fungus-floating thing! In the final
book of the Corellian Trilogy he cannot even hold his urine! In those same
books he is not even able to hold his breath. Yet here are the three Jedi
children able to walk through a force field! Poor, poor Master Luke. I
hink
he needs to be killed for his own good. And Han and Lando need to realize
their glory days are over. I hope they are in wheelchairs soon and hit
little whiper-snappers with their power canes or something. And when will
on
Mothma die?? Come on, someone assisinate her! Please!
