 BP > hehe :)

DG>> atound with machine settings all the time, i'm here now laying
DG>> with ssh and all the BBS stuff and dosemu doors thing and all
DG>> that is on a cybercafe machibe which people doesn't even notice
 DG>>

BP > you hate users playing around with settings on the cybercafe ? :)

No i hate when *I* have to play with settings or even install when users are
around.

BP > lets hope its your own cafe :)

It is all of the machibes have been build by be though that's no big deal
nowadays as some stupid jerk around that installs a modem is a technician and
they say they're assemblers and have "prostituted" the market
IMHO. well at
leats in my country we see that whomever is capable of installing a modem
becomes a technician oir even an engineer.

DG>> Thanks a lot it's really usefull stuff to look at.

BP > if you browse your own site you will see what hostnames apache is
 BP > serving :)

Well it's only serveing www.skynetbbs.org

BP > let the kids play :)

BP > if all the names should show the same page since thay are on the same
BP > ip, you have to declare them as serveralias in apache conf, doit :)

Well i'd like some help there as i'm not an Apache expert.

DG>>>> I know what the problem is bbs.rafastd.is still doing some
DG>>>> weird stuff and for some reason hasn't updated it's slave zone
DG>>>> from zoneedit which are my Dynamic DNS providers for
 DG>>>> skynetbbs.org

BP > if your own serial on the soa record is lower then the soa on the
BP > slave then it wont update :)

Yep i know but when i make changes on zonedit the serial is automatically
updated, so that's not the issue i know it's Rafa's server which is
miss-configured somewhere.

DG>>>> and his DNS points to 212.69.112.164 which was my IP weeks ago.
DG>>>> i'll take him out of my MS list though so you won't have and me
DG>>>> neither have that problem again.

BP > ms, you mean ns list :)

Yepi upilydoodoly

BP>>> goody, if you want some of us to connect to your mbse we need a
BP>>> staticly ip to find you, or atleast a staticly hostname :)
DG>> Well in fact you have like lazy eyes huh have you ever checked
DG>> the nodelist or at least my *Origin line? ;-)

BP > yes, but i did not know your bbs do use that hostname before now :)

Well then how did you set up my feed huh?.

DG>> . mean i have two hostnames for that matter bbs.skynetbbs.org
 DG>> (primary) and fidocol-.dyndns.org (backup). They're automatically
DG>> updated each time my IP changes with ddclient. so i always have a
DG>> reliable connection to either one.

BP > if you want uptime, get static ip :)

Sorry for this but the *assholes* at my ISP won't sell static IPs to this
ADSL plans that's just for commercial plans according to them.

BP>>> if this was not your plan you can run as client as you do now :)
DG>> Sorry?, i've always been serving since i first created the BBS
DG>> i've always done Telnet serving and BinkP always with dinamic IP
 DG>> but static hostnames

BP > okay if it works, but i don't trust it :)

Well it does work and until know it's been reliable though i dislike it too.

BP>>> do you make dns settings your self ?
DG>> Yep, have done it for some months i just wanned to have my own
DG>> DNS for my network and leaning purposes too and i run my own BIND
DG>> as secundary DNS of my onw skynetbbs.org domain which is handled
DG>> also by me at zonedit.

BP > so you have your own bind as slave for your domain, its very simple
BP > then to make php / mysql setup to create the zone file and then reload
BP > the named and let the master server follow :)

Alreally?, how come?, that's easy when you know php/mysql and i don't so ...

DG>> i like to complicate my life many would say.

BP > belive me, most dns people don't know how easy it is to maintain there
 BP > own domain :)

Well when you're a programmer like most of you on the *linux* echoes and i'm
not one so it's not as "easy" as you say it is.

DG>> I've also set up a DHCP server

BP > did it fail ?

Nope when i'm playing around with knoppix or installind distros on my VMware
Virtual machine i need it to hazzle not with static ips and such it's running
now.

DG>> and tried a LDAP server but never could so just forgot about it.

BP > LDAP is evil :)

Well finally we agree in something here pal.

DG>> I've also messed around with LTSP, NFS, Samba and some other
DG>> stuff which i've learned a lot from and that way i've made some
DG>> bucks out of it. -:)

 BP > cool

Yep

BP >>> you have found it ?

DG>> Yes i checked out the settings

BP > so you have it working now ?, what do /server-info tell you ? :)

Many things that i can't remember now ;)

DG>> you can translate it on-line.

 BP > yes yes

You did?.

DG>> So now you can hit both www. and skynet.... and get to the same
 DG>> location?.

BP > still have to test this from here

Ok did it work, though according to my brazilian downlink (ZC4) he says
there's still trouble and that damn IP is still cousing some trouble for him
to connect.

DG>> Cool, What has been your experience with Linux?.

BP > here it runs everything i need, but my family members only knows gimp
 BP > :)

don't even know that thing i've heard of it though never touched it.

BP > its pretty cool to have all in text mode, no silly graphics in mails,
BP > just the plain mail :)

Well we disagree (again) ther man asn how can you browse text mode in colors
and pictures guess that man?.

DG>> though i don't ask that cos many times my knowledge is so
DG>> insignifficant to all of those linux geeks that know it all and i
DG>> see i'm just a litle sand grane on a big beach and that i don't
 DG>> know anything.

BP > remember that geeks are just old people that have worked long to know
 BP > what a geek is :)

Well ... let's just say yes. :)
