PE> Hi Paul. Since you're an expert at Unix,

I think you must be confusing me with another Paul Markham.

PE> I was wondering if you could furnish me with the following:

Pretty unlikely.

PE> 1. During a UUCP connect, the other system sends a file, which

PE> is quite similar to our arcmail attaches. It consists of a header

PE> which contains a command (such as "unbatch") followed by a lot

PE> of data that has been compressed using the unix "compress"

PE> utility. You then need to strip the command, decompress the

PE> data, and then toss the messages, which conform to RFC-822.

Thanks for that info. I'm sure it'll come in handy one day.

PE> 2. Do you have some C newsgroups that you can feed to me at no

 PE> extra cost to yourself?

No. I don't get any news groups here and we haven't got any further than
e-mail at work.

PE> 3. I have spoken to Dave Hatch, and he says if I can provide him

PE> with newsgroups, he is happy to give them to the rest of

PE> Australia. IOW all it takes is one gate and the entire Fidonet

PE> joins the world of internet newsgroups. I am still trying to

PE> ascertain the technical and monetary aspects of this.

I know there are boards around already collecting news groups. I'd guess
they're not being shipped around the fidonet backbone due to the cost
involved.

PE> 4. David Begley, you're a unix expert to, so I probably should have

PE> cc:ed this to you, so don't feel left out of a Paul Edwards wacky

PE> home software project now, will you?

Run Dave! Get out of here while you still can!

PE> 5. I don't think the point format was the correct way to write this

PE> message. One humungous paragraph would have been more logical.

PE> What I need is a feature in micro-emacs that

PE> auto-humungous-paragaphifies things for me. Remind me to add that

PE> as a feature to a future public domain version of emacs?!

Remember to add an auto-humungous-paragraphier feature to a future public
domain version of emacs.

Paul
