Greetings Bong,
I apologize, as soon as You said it, I remembered that You were
coming from Clipper, but my tired brain forgot. It is very difficult
to estimate, I think at least 50%, but not more than 60%, of what you
know from Clip, will translate nicely into VFP. Much of the difference
is in the move from a DOS based Tool to a Windows one.
Not at all "funny" about getting a Product before the Brochure, it
is sadly typical these days. There IS a nice 4-color datasheet/brochure
on Visual FoxPro 5 available. If You will call the Microsoft Subsidiary
in Your country or region and speak to Inside Sales or try International
Sales at (206) 936-8661, they should be able to send You a couple. It
can also be had (in b&w) from their Fax-back service at (206) 635-2222.
Here (I live in the San Francisco/Berkeley area) the FP5 Upgrade is
going for $179 and your upgrade from Clipper or dBASE is $229. I am not
sure, but I think the Full Package is about $350.
The "Developer's Day" that Ms. just held here in California, did
include Visual FoxPro 5. No, I have no idea why they would have left it
out, except the new increased marketing effort on VFP may well have not
reached their people in some Countries yet.
I think that You will find FoxPro quite different at first, but then
quickly, much easier to learn. It is also a more complete system, You
will not find the need for all those addon products, as with Clipper.
Let Us know how it goes,
den
