CG>Wondered if you knew anything about a mock search to take place in
CG>Burke County, S.C.
Chanda,
Burke County EMS, Morganton, North Carolina, will be holding their
annual SAR exercize on 22 through 26 March. This is one of the largest
exercizes on the East Coast and has over 150 participants from teams all
across the U.S.
The exercize is coordinated by Steve Foster, Burke County EMA, a NASAR
V.P. and is run as a real time search, from call out to demobilization.
Participants do not have to attend every day, but are put into the
search effort when they arrive on scene, just as in a real search. Also
you may have the opportunity to fill any position in the ICS structure
from IC to crew member.
Last year a Florida Dog Team found the "lost" subject (A Burke SAR team
member) on the third day. Unfortunatly they were somewhat disorented
(LOST) and had to overnight. Make sure you have a good 24hr pack! FYI
the "lost" subject is never found until the last day. The dog team was
given a note, saying that you found the note not me. This allows the
exercise to continue.
Great exercize and great people. They will be holding a SAR Tech II test
the last day of the exercize. Coming from the land of 2O ft contour
lines, the moutains of Burke Co can be challenging. Also the weather
that time of year is unpredictable expect everything from highs in the
70's to snow or rain everday. Contact Burke County EMS at 704-437-1911
for more information
See you there.
Charles
