I think things are improving in that area, but there is still a need for more
cross-training between Compueter and video folks.
RB> BTW my dealership gave up on the toaster because it never came out
 RB> on another platform.
We never took it on because several local computer houses, as well as v
deo house, were already selling it. The competition would have driven profits
to zilch, so we just stayed out of it. We (the dealer I worked for then) did
suffer though because we didn't take on ANY non-linear editor/DVE/Graphics
boxes based on PC's. I think this is one reason the business ended up closing
its doors, we didn't adapt to the market.
RB> It is a shame though the toaster wasn't and isnt a bad solution for some
RB> end-users but contrary to some opinions it isn't the end all solution.
For Wedding photogs, schools, many industrial applications, etc. it was a
good solution. The problem (IMHO) is that too many folks tried to use it for
middle level post production (commercials on a budget, intra company
training, etc.) and it really doesn't have the same level of quality as, say,
BetaCam SP VTRs, Ikegami or Sony three chip camera, etc. So you take some
really nice footage, run it through a TOASTER, and it turns out looking like
something done in someone's garage or as a school project. But, again, I must
confess I am very predjudiced against this box .
