Hi Larry...
-> The tales of human sacrifice exist in oral legends passed down by
-> those privileged and deisgnated to pass on our history, but I am not
-> aware that beyond the pure fact that it was done, that there might
-> have been a logic or reason to why that was done. Often, it was done
-> to placate or please a powerful deity who might have expressed
-> displeasure or anger in some way.
The Old Testament story of Abraham and Isaac sounds like a story from a
culture that may have once practiced human sacrifice. I can see how
human sacrifice might seem necessary if the gods are thought to be
vindictive.
-> These practices evolved from humans to animals and the present day
-> sacrifices are either stacked stones and/or food wrapped in ti
-> leaves left to the gods. Such is the practice until the present day.
It's a brilliant piece of lateral thinking to decide that real
sacrifices could be replaced by the symbol of a sacrifice. It's
just as hard to perceive our own twentieth century assumptions and to
understand that they are just that - assumptions.
Eg, the assumption that doctors = health care. That our politicians
'run' the country. That white collar crime is 'nicer', and that if you
steal enough, it's not a crime at all. Our society is affliced with a
lot of human parasites, but we often don't recognize them as such. The
media are servile and keep the cover stories in place.
