Speaking of Space Age I have a brochure from Drake with a picture of the =
Moon behind the radio! All inferences in the booklet were the space age =
developments of the TR-7!

  Hi,

the TR-7 was not only looking good but was technically way ahead of =
it's competition. Even 30 years ago it provided 100 dB of intermod free =
dynamic range, better than the Collins KWM-380 und much better than the =
Signal/One Milspec1030 due to its mechanically switched front end =
filters. The Kenwoods are not only ugly but even today show comparably =
short large signal capabilities. Even the new TenTec Orion does not =
surpass the 100 dB limit of the TR-7!=20

I agree! Talk about styling. I don't think there is anything quite =
as ugly looking as the Kenwood TS-2000 and the new TS-480. I think it's =
TS-480 but didn't pay much attention because I don't intend to own one. =
I wonder who designed the front panel layouts and enclosures? Maybe the =
new rigs are light years ahead in technology and performance but they =
sure look ugly to me. The old Drakes have the looks AND work as good as =
they look.

the 7 line is like what the 50's auto designers thought future cars =
would look like in the 90's!!!! Its like the Marko Shark Corvette! =
Instead the future turned to be dull and drab and everything the same =
when it comes to radios and cars. I don't think there was anything else =
that ever had the space age look like the TR-7 and it looks like nothing =
else ever will!! Dan

      Dan:

You sound exactly like me about 3 years ago when I got my TR7A, =
never having used one before. It's a truly incredible rig, way ahead of =
its time, built like a tank, is fixable, sounds great on both rx and tx, =
and just plain looks good too, especially when you start adding all =
those look-alike accessories. You can't get a _station_ anymore like =
that!

      Welcome to the club!

I often think that someone's opinion of the best radio is the =
one that is his favorite at the time of the statement. As much as I love =
the 4 line especially the c-line I just got a properly working TR-7 and =
I tell ya as far as the Drake stuff goes you can't beat it! Dan
