wouldn't call it a hobby, it's more an sub conscious obsession.

It not enough for me to have an Acceptian Empire out there threatening the
peace and security of the Federation.  I have to noodle out the Acceptian
politics, the Acceptian home life, how in a broad fashion the society
works.  Acceptians, for example, do separate bathroom by gender, and the
girls bathrooms in secondary and higher schools have facilities to dispose
of infertile eggs.  No story will likely hinge on that fact, but it's
something my brain decided I needed to know.  How does being egg layers
affect Acceptian home life and family politics?
