  When I was an underling I hated it when someone with rank would assign
someone some "dirty" job.  (That is, something they wouldn't do).
  With my guys (I have three under me) I am right there with them doing
whatever it is that needs to be done.  Stand in the cold, rain, working in
all sorts of weather, etc.  I always tell them I wouldn't ask them to do
something that I wouldn't do, or haven't done.
  Along these lines, in early 2007 the company I worked for didn't re-bid
on the contract at the university.  I love the job and everyone (that
counts ) is pleased with my work, etc.
  I went with the new company.  When I did I lost all rank I had.  I went
from lieutenant with the old company to a regular officer with the new. 
Last December I was promoted to sergeant.  The other day my captain came by
to say I've been promoted to lieutenant, effective 2 Sept.
