Re: Picture of the Year By: John Massey to Daniel Prather on Mon Dec 31 2007 09:35 pm > Same thing. Take away the U.S. contribution's an the UN folds up the tent. UNICEF and the UN are not the same thing. UNICEF is an organization underneath the UN umbrella that is funded independently of the parent organization. It is entirely voluntary, and only those nations who wish to volunteer resources do so. > And it has failed. I don't think it's failed. I look at it much like, hmmm, the Iraqi or Palestinian democracies. See, democracies don't always go the way the big guys want them to go. So the big guys meddle with elections, voting, etc., and then point at how broken the system is when it doesn't work. > Yeah those third world dictators and despots, along with the socialist, and > communist are all as pure as the new snow. No problem with them! Yep It's > got to be those nasty old capitalist in the larger western nations. The western nations are the nations with veto power. They're the ones who often can simply make things go away (especially in the security council, where so much is done) with a single vote. If that isn't circumventing democractic principles, I don't know what does. > Yes it would. WE The US could kick ass. Do you have a problem with 300 400 > million people vaporised? Yes, I have a very big problem with 300-400 million people being vaporized. However, the US doesn't have to worry about the UN standing in our way there. Hell, we even use UN resolutions as justification for war, then complain when the UN does not sanction our actions! -- Daniel --- SBBSecho 2.12-FreeBSD* Origin: :: The Realm of Dreams :: bbs.mysticone.com (1:112/10) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 90/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1417 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 633/260 267 285 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 2905/0 @PATH: 112/10 123/500 261/38 633/260 267 |
