Replying to a message of Steve Kemp to Alan Hess:

SK> Of course I do turn them on every once and awhile and scan every
SK> couple of months...with no hits.

SK> And I've NEVER gotten a virus or been hacked.
SK> Even on my old 'puters, years ago.
SK> Gee, I feel left out.

I've read that the time between one logs on to the Internet and the
time of the first attempt to get into his/her computer is less than
fifteen minutes.

If your machines are on the net 24x7 I don't see how you could have
escaped at least the attempts.

I briefly worked at a local (Omaha) bank (my job was being outsourced to
them and I was training their people) and got into a discussion with one of
the network gurus there. He said that they were being hit by cyberattacks
constantly; at that time, fortunately, the attacks had all been unsuccessful.
