>>> Part 6 of 7... BL> stuff preserved. It is expensive and unknown in content as far as I can tell. I'd rather stick to the whole leaf for now. At least you know it hasn't been tampered with. BL> nor am I HIV+, so I don't need to carpet bomb my gut. ;) No one does. Strong laxatives are the basis for the complaint that the cure was worse than the disease! :-) Keep talking, Buzz. I am finding your experience fascinating. Other than the laxative effect, have you noticed any other quantifiable changes? From: Patricia Christmas BL> I'm going to retry it again, but I'm going to spread it out over the entire week, sort of like a glass a day. That will ramp it back up slowly and will sustain it at a more constant level. I'm not sick, nor am I HIV+, so I don't need to carpet bomb my gut. ;) Well, live and learn, dear, live and learn! (G) Good luck, and thanks for the info. Patricia From: Gail Farquhar -=> Quoting Buzz Lange to Patricia Christmas <=- BL> Well, I had a Hell of a time with it. I think it backwashed me right up to my tonsils. Frazier takes his whole leaf once per week in three or four doses after heavy meals. I didn't know this and belted almost a quart of the stuff down over two hours. I was communing with Nature the rest of the evening. I have stopped taking it after the first leaf, but I plan to make more tomorrow morning and follow his method. BL> Since I tried it, I have been inundated in data from all sorts of sources about aloe products with the bad stuff removed and the good stuff preserved. It is expensive and unknown in content as far as I can tell. I'd rather stick to the whole leaf for now. BL> I'm going to retry it again, but I'm going to spread it out over the entire week, sort of like a glass a day. That will ramp it back up slowly and will sustain it at a more constant level. I'm not sick, nor am I HIV+, so I don't need to carpet bomb my gut. ;) According to Michael T. Murray, ND in his book _The Healing Power of Herbs_, a latex in the *second* layer of aloe leaves, the "underskin" that appears corrugated, is responsible for most of the laxative (or purgative, if you take enough of it ) properties of aloe, so it stands to reason that if you remove this layer before you eat the leaf you'll avoid a LOT of unpleasantness. The polysaccharides that are responsible for the antiviral and immunopotentiating effects of aloe, as well as the stimulation of wound repair; the glycoproteins, anthraquinones and salicylates that help with the antiinflammatory/anti-allergy effects; the prostaglandins and fatty acids, especially gamma-linolenic acid, that exert antiinflammatory, anti-allergy, platelet aggregation suppressive and wound healing effects AND the serine carboxypeptidase, minerals, vitamins, sterols and amino acids that aloe contains are concentrated in the inner gel, so you can use IT instead. He details research that indicates that aloe gel or juice, taken internally, is effective in healing peptic ulcers, as a gastrointestinal tonic, as an aid to treating AIDS in humans (although it only appears to be TRULY helpful in those patients with a T cell count> 150/cc AND a p24 level<300) and feline leukemia in cats, as a treatment for asthma, as an antimicrobial equal to or slightly better than silver sulfadiazine, as an antifungal and to promote the healing of all but surgical-type (deeply incised) wounds. One interesting tidbit is that aloe leaves stored in the dark at 4 degrees C. (can we say refrigerator?) have a greater than ten-fold increase in neutral polysaccharide content. Since Murray also states that the potency of aloe preparations is *extremely* variable, and effective dosages have yet to be completely defined anyway, perhaps you'd be best off making your own juice from skinned leaves that you've kept refrigerated for a week. From: Buzz Lange SP> How big a leaf? THere is a great difference in size between a potbound crowded planting on a windowsill, and the leaf from an inground free-growing cultivar outside. :-) SP> Or, failing that, how many total ounces do you think you ingest? The leaves are between 18" and 24" long, and about as wide as the keys on your keyboard (5 rows) at the widest part of the leaf. These puppies are heavy, too. When I cut them into cross sections, the gell is over 1/2" thick and is transparent. I have never liked the smell. SP> Keep talking, Buzz. I am finding your experience fascinating. Other than the laxative effect, have you noticed any other quantifiable changes? Since the first time, I haven't gotten back on a schedule. When I take the aloe, I try to keep it to one leaf per week. I grind the chunks up and add orange juice to make it drinkable. Somewhere between 2:1 and 1:1 (aloe:OJ) works best for me. Your mileage may vary.. I noticed that I could think and dream better. I'll be more quantitative when I start again. I have put a supermicro into my system, and Intel has screwed everyone by releasing a defective chipset. Don't go near the Triton-II set, it has mega problems. Unfortunately, the new computer has been configured as our server, and without it, all the other machines have to be reorganized. I put the aloe on the back burner because I am running on no sleep for days. Hmm. I couldn't do that before. It lasts for 5-6 days before the effect reverts to my norm. I suppose that is yet another "change". >>> Continued to next message... ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30 --- FLAME v2.0/b* Origin: Braintap BBS Adelaide Oz, Internet UUCP +61-8-8239-0497 (3:800/449) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 800/449 1 640/954 774/605 123/500 106/1 379/1 633/267 |
