Grin! Well, for some odd reason, every 2nd or 3rd generation in one of our
lines crops up a geneologist (though they didnt call it that 'way back
when'). We actually do have records going back to 1066 when one 'Hugh
Courbeau' came over with William to England. Didnt get listed in the
Domesday books but do have a land grant from that time. Lots of Chancellors
of England then they sorta devolve to land barons around the late 1200's.
Less tracking of the other lines but the 'Corbet or Corbett' line is well
documented. My name is even in the book the main english branch of the
family released when I was about 4. (Mom has a copy, big thick green thing
with a paper cover, I'm just a listing with place of birth).
What that book doesnt accurately reflect is the shenanigans of the 'less than
reputable' parts on our portion of the line where 'Doctor Corbett' fled
england just before the law got'em. He was performing abortions on rich
young girls who'd gone astray (some of the astray was with him). He got
caught when he tried to blackmail someone 'way up the social scale' to keep
his mouth shut. Interesting coot. One of many in the family records.

;-) Some of mine were, but most seemed to be younger sons of wealthy family
where the money was tied to eldest son. A few 'females widowed with small
kids' (so they said) creep in as well (reading between the lines is real easy
there!).

Got a few like that too!
