Your conures sound darling. The main thing with performing is that the bird
is enjoying it. To make a bird perform something he hates to do is like
beating a dancer to perform. The body will do it, but the spirit is gone. I
wish my guys would work for hugs. Amazons place a high value on food and
most of them you can win over through their stomachs. I take a shelled
sunflower seed (human quality unsalted from the health food store) and break
it into thirds or half. Now that Pepper is the star of my group his policy
is: No pay, no work. The birds take their performing very seriously. They
do not like another bird doing their tricks or using their prop if it is
something they really like to do. Well, Kodiak BFA doesn't. He talks to the
audience before, during and after the performance. He also shouts commands
at the other birds, does his most daring acrobats, and when all else fails to
get him attention, he gives the audience raspberries. He is a naturally
funny bird. Your way of using their natural abilities and making them into
a routine is perfect. Not all birds are willing to work with props or like
the excitement of entertaining. Keep up the good work.
