I learned at the N.F.B. Merchant's Division conference of the Veteran's
Administration and its efforts in Minnesota and Maryland to circumvent the
Randolph-shepherd act which the courts have ruled does apply. They have
blatantly flaunted the court order especially in Maryland by building a new
facility in downtown Baltimore, allowing huge space for their own vending and
food service operations but only a small out of the way spot for a
Randolph-shepherd location. This action denies blind people jobs yet I heard
no talk of picketing them.
Yet we were all set to picket another non-proffit entity which has provided
blind people a valuable service for nearly 70 years just because they would
not pay a networking breakfast fee had we not settled this dispute. I think
non-proffit agencies who have not done anything to hurt us should be exempt
from this fee, but the point I am making is let's put our picketing efforts
where they will do more good. I will provide more details when I post my
conference report
