LW> Well today I played 5 studio's at my dealer and I found that I really
LW> liked the ones that have the ebony fretboard but they are making fewer
LW> and fewer of them already with ebony. Actually Gibson is getting real
LW> sloppy with these guitars. These 5 guitars had 3 different types of
nobs
LW> on them. I was shocked how they no longer seem to follow standard but
LW> just put on them what seems to be available. I don't want to look
 LW> at a G & L as I had one already. It was a nice guitar but I traded
LW> it in. I did find one studio today that seemed to have the best
LW> neck and action of them all. But I must admit the ebony ones feel
 LW> the nicest.
Really? For the price that Gibson is charging, you'd figure that
there'd be quality control... :/
Well, as long as you're happy with with it, I can't say anything. :)
My favorite is a Mexican Strat, and price had nothing to do with my
determination of that. :)
LW> I have a tex mex strat that had a humbucker in it and s single at the
LW> bridge but I pulled them out and put in a pair of vintage series pickups
LW> and am playing that guitar constantly now. I love the sound of it now
LW> that it has the vintage series in it and that is why I am now ready to
o
LW> for the gibson as I want both sounds.
The Tex Mex Fat Strat? (Wow. Try saying that three times fast...)
Personally, I already have one vintage sounding guitar, and with the way I
have it set up, I can run the gammut from nice clean and crisp country twang
to nice fat singing leads. (Thanks Torres Engineering :>) That's my #1,
Layla. I also now have a Tex Mex Tele Special and another Strat that I've
built (currently in the process of finding time to reattach the neck that I
stripped the screw-holes on) that both are hotter sounding. The Tele has a
'bucker in the neck and a hot bridge single coil, and (thanks to Duncan
Markley), the FrankenStrat has a FLS Red in the bridge and a Texas Special in
the neck and is wired up like a Tele (though I may wire in a middle PU and
put a toggle on it to turn just that one on).
