As it happens I have just 'lost' THREE logical drives (removable storage on
three USB ports) - the only radical thing I have done recently is to change
my power supply unit and I know the USB connectors are being recognised as
they responded when I used them to plug in my USB RF wireless receiver.
Thing is when I try to use them as 'drives' - for example for reading
digital images via my USB card reader\writer - they are no longer
recognised! Very odd - but still at least it is an incentive to probe deeper
under Microsofts XP 'hood' and find out what the fuck is going on! Of course
it could be that somehow despite the layers of defences installed on my
internet machine some sneaky malware had made it's home here (if so 'it' is
due for an early eviction - I can assure 'it'!!) and fucked around with
sundry registry settings. All that said - it is an interesting idea you
present and I wonder if DMA could be harnessed - certainly for 'reads' that
would be blazingly fast!!
