When did you ever hear protests from MS when various govs/gov depts have mandated word thus leading to the death of the Lotus & WordPerfect competition? & anyway....the idea is to have a single transferable std open text file formatted as XML free of royalties, patents etc which can then be used for decades to come so.....mandating is the std way in Gov's/gov depts.
