Hello there,
Bi> The 2 bonus chicks: Hatcheries routinely throw in an extra chick
Bi> of each variety in case something goes wrong in transit. In my case,
Bi> they only threw in one extra of that type, an extra buff. However,
Bi> with a minimum order, they also throw in one of their rare or exotic
Bi> breeds. I have no idea what mine is, only that it's on the eggshell
Bi> side of white, leggy, has dark eyes and dark skin on it's legs. I've
Bi> gone through their catalog over and over again trying to figure out
Bi> which it is and can't make heads nor tails of it. The closest I come
Bi> is that it *might be a Phoenix, one of the Japanese variety in which
Bi> the roosters grow very long tails. With my luck, however, it'll be a
Bi> hen.
Any luck yet in determining? I have two chicks who I
THOUGHT were going to be Rhode Islands but i'm sorry to say, they've turned
out to be "butt-ugly" in my opinion... maybe they will look better grown...
They are yellowish bodied with varigated yellow and brown wings and brown
heads... interesting...
Bi> egg production (anywhere from 9 to 14 a day - one seems to be a
Bi> rooster) and even get an occasional double yolker.
How do you get a double yolker?
Bi> find your chickens to be wonderful egg producers. Rhode Islands are
Bi> the *best of the brown egg layers
My Rhode Island was the first to lay although hers don't seem to be as large
as the White Leghorns.
Well, gotta go...Take care...and thanks for the advice!
Liz
