"Looks like you were fooled by the elegant & easy-to-use interface."
Not me. This is the bit that appeals to consumers, not the underlying =
bits. The same is true of Windows. Consumers are sold by the UI and =
features not the API or driver model. If you think consumers care about =
the low level bits then you should stay far away from this business and =
especially its marketing.

"Don=92t let its elegant and easy-to-use interface fool you. Beneath =
the=20
surface of Mac OS X lies an industrial-strength UNIX foundation hard =
at=20
work to ensure that your computing experience remains free of system=20
crashes and compromised performance. Time-tested security protocols in =
Mac OS X keep your Mac out of harm=92s way."
Looks like you were fooled by the elegant & easy-to-use interface.
"The most widely-sold UNIX-based operating system, Mac OS X offers a=20
unique combination of technical elements to the discerning geek, such =
as=20
fine-grained multithreading, Mach 3.0 microkernel, FreeBSD services,=20
tight hardware integration and SMP-safe drivers, as well as zero=20
configuration networking. Tiger=92s state-of-the-art kernel features=20
improved SMP scalability and 64-bit virtual memory, while=20
standards-based access control lists take UNIX permissions to the next =
level.
Command-line Environment
UNIX users will feel at home in Darwin, the robust BSD environment =
that=20
underlies Mac OS X. That environment is accessible at any time from =
the=20
Terminal application. You can also run commands that don=92t require=20
arguments (such as top) by double-clicking them in the Finder. With =
the=20
thousands of man pages included in Mac OS X, you can quickly find all=20
your favorite UNIX tools.
All of the standard UNIX utilities and scripting languages are =
included=20
in Mac OS X: editors such as emacs, vim and even ed; file management=20
tools such as cp, mv, ls and tar; shell scripts including bash (the=20
default shell), tcsh (csh) and zsh. Tiger adds the korn shell so you =
can=20
run scripts written for other operating systems more easily. And of=20
course you can use scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, tcl, Ruby =
and=20
Python, with native support for the popular Tcl/TK, TKInter and=20
WxWidgets toolkits. Python users can also script the powerful Quartz=20
compositing engine. Visit the Open Source page for more Open Source=20
utilities in Mac OS X."
& many others.
The real fight remains between *ix & Windows & Mac OSX is part of *ix.
