Licensing issues, security breaches and the grassroots power of open-source
software are factors which have resulted in governments and businesses
worldwide thinking seriously of alternatives to Microsoft, the technology
research firm Gartner says.

The finding was part of a special report titled A Look at Alternatives to
Microsoft, an Australian-driven worldwide project, led by research director
Robin Simpson. It found that the reasons behind the search for alternatives
varied greatly by region.
