You're point is valid.  However, when have the writers of Trek allowed
physics to get in the way of what they perceive as a good story?

I am a "Garden of Forking Paths" type myself.  I also use the Law
of the Conservation of Time.  Changing your own past is night unto
impossible, and changing the future is a null concept.  You cannot
"change" what has not happened.  In any case I never installed a
reset button on G-Trek.
