The easiest method to keep your Red Hat 8 or 9 systems updated:
http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de
Here you'll find a single package to get you going: "ATrpms
contain packages suitable for automating upgrades and installs
for the atrpms and freshrpms.net repositories. For newcomers a
special package (atrpms-kickstart-9-2.i386.rpm) has been created
for speeding up the setup of your system. It contains in a single
package an apt implementation, which will automatically be replaced
with modular pieces the first time you dist-upgrade your system."
Apt-get for rpm packages has been around for awhile now, but
this makes the setup process easier than ever for newbies. I've
used it on several systems now without any troubles. Remember
to support open source providers!
