Hello! My boys are 3 yrs. and 6 months. Jhereg (the 3 year old) had
nown
ALL his letters since he was 2 1/2 and knows numbers by sight, and can count
to
5 easily, to 12 (sometimes 15) when he slows down. When he goes too fast, he
forget 4, 5, 6. But he knows lots of shapes and some colors. He has the
ost
trouble with colors, I think because he wants each shade to have a specific
name, and there are SO MANY shades of color. Colors like teal, lavender,
aquamarine and even orange (except when very defined hue) give him problems.
Is it blue or is it green? Is it purple or is it blue? Is it green or blue
or
yellow? But we are very very proud of him! And other parents are astonished
when he chooses to demonstrate his prowess! I think because his grandparents
(my husband's parents) doubt his accomplishments and because they always look
for faults in his leanring, he doesn't show off for them very much. One time
he started showing his Grandma letters on a book she was reading, and when he
was done she said "But do you know your colors?" and he just walked away.
After that, he's never really tried to show either one of them what he knows,
because he learned that they don't really care anyway. Kids learn FAST!!!
I did read a book specifically about teaching kids age 6 and UNDER - even
babies like my 6 month old and your 20 month old. It is called "How to Give
Your Baby Encyclopedic Knowledge" By Glenn Doman. I think you would enjoy
t!
I think EVERY parent should have a copy of this when they are in the
aternity
ward! If they don't use the information, fine. But I sure would have liked
to
have it when MY firstborn was a baby! I feel cheated that I didn't have this
information then!
I'm going to try to send you a private mail - from Overworked Dragon,
here
I send other FIDO and Internet mail. Sometimes it doesn't get to it's
destination though. SO let me know as soon as it gets there, okay?
