On our first trip to England we were doing a tour of some castle, and the 
guide mentioned this part is the new part - started around 1230 or so.

NEW! What the devil are you talking about? asks I.  :)  Then he looked down 
his nose at the ignert unwashed lad from the colonies and explained what 
defines old from new.

If it's listed in the Domesday book, it's old - if after that, it's new. :)

Back when I used to pick up the genealogy echo,you'd see someone ask if 
anyone had ever traced back to Adam and Eve - then the blasts  :)

Going back to 1000 is considered rare, our line can trace back to 1513, 
better than some.  :)
